Child Health Clinic (Well-Baby)

1st and 3rd Wednesday in Month Only 1.30-3.30pm.
Dr Claire Lewis, Health Visitor - Christine Murray and a Practice Nurse.

Developmental checks and immunisations. You are welcome to come without an appointment for baby weighing or advice from the Health Visitor.

Our Health Visitor is an experienced nurse and midwife who has additional training. She can offer advice and help especially relating to babies and children under 5 years. This might include advice about feeding, weaning, minor ailments and immunisations. The Health Visitor should be your first port of call for any problems unless you feel your child is unwell when you should make an appointment with a doctor. She has an open access (no appointment necessary) baby clinic each Wednesday from  1.30-3.30 pm. Alternatively she can make individual appointments to see you at the surgery or at your home.

Developmental checks are carried at 8 weeks (By a Doctor), 8 months (Health Visitor) 2 1/2 years (Health Visitor and Doctor). We will normally contact you when your child needs a check or your Health Visitor will advise you.

Antenatal Clinic

Every Tuesday 2.00-4.00pm. This is run by our Midwife, Pauline Wilkinson and is by appointment only. She undertakes most antenatal care, but you are welcome to see a doctor at any time should you wish. All postnatal checks and the first check our done by one of the doctors. If you become pregnant please contact Reception to make an initial appointment with a doctor. It is recommended that ladies who are trying to become pregnant avoid smoking, drinking excess alcohol and take Folic Acid (a vitamin) on a regular basis. This is available over the counter from a Pharmacy who can advise you of the correct preparation. 400 microgrammes (mcg) is the recommended daily dose and, when you become pregnant, should be taken for the first 13 weeks..

Family Planning

We provide advice on all forms of contraception including the Oral Contraceptive Pill, Mini-Pill, coils and diaphragms (caps). Please feel free to make an appointment with either your Doctor or one of our Practice Nurses. Emergency Oral Contraception is available and should be taken within 72 hours of unprotected intercourse. Other contraception can be given up to 5 days after intercourse and we can advise. We will always try to ensure that you are given an appropriate appointment or offered a telephone consultation. Please ensure that you explain to the Receptionist the nature of the problem when phoning.
